Traverse 22 miles and a total of 49 Class III and Class IV whitewater rapids on the Pacuare River on this amazing Costa Rica adventure!

You will feel confident after our safety-orientation and paddle practice at the Pacuare River Exploration Center, and rest-assured that this tour is appropriate for beginners in whitewater rafting. The first day allows you to build confidence on Class III rapids (medium waves but great for all travelers over 12 years of age), and after lunch at our Pacuare River Tent Camp, you will have plenty of time to explore the area or relax in the hammocks before dinner. On the second day we take a hike to the Indigenous Reserve, where you can see first-hand the authentic Costa Rican way of life. The final day takes you back to our Exploration Center with more exciting Class IV whitewater rapids.

6:00 – 6:30 am Pick Ups in San José, Southern Caribbean and Arenal Volcano
6:30 – 8:30 am En route to Exploration Center in Siquirres
8:30 – 9:15 am Breakfast at the Exploration Center
9:15 – 10:00 am En route Exploration Center to River Drop-In
10:00 – 10:45 am Preparation for Descent: Safety orientation and paddle practice

Please Note: There is a Baggage Limit for your trip down the Pacuare: It is the Size of a Carry-On for an International flight or 25 pounds. The weight is not as important as the volume. Please read our packing guide
Packing Recommendations and Limitations
If you are changing destinations you will need to bring all of your luggage with you and we ask that you split it prior to the operator picking you up. The first day of your trip you are driving first to the tour operator´s base in Siquirres, the Exploration Center. Here you are going to have breakfast on the first day. This is also where your main luggage will be kept securely for you as you venture into the remote canals of Tortuguero. You will need the split the luggage as recommended below.
In your Carry On Bag you are going to bring all your needs for your 2-day stay at our campgrounds (see list below). This bag will travel with you and will be with you the whole Pacuare trip. Here is where the "Size of a Carry-On / 25 pounds" applies.
The remaining of your luggage will separately be stored at our Exploration Center. Here they have lockers where your belongings are going to be secured. It will be guarded 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You will pick it up on your third day when you return after lunch on the river. Here you will have time to re-organize and all of your luggage that will travel with you on to your next destination (San Jose, Arenal or the Caribbean).
What to pack for Pacuare Paddle & Hike + Indigenous Village Tour:
All your valuables such as passport, plane tickets, credit cards, cash.
Basics such as light clothes (2 shirts, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of socks) and swim suit and basic toiletries.
Jungle survival necessities such as sunscreen, hat, camera (must be waterproof or stored in a waterproof bag), water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, insect repellent, binoculars, raincoat.
Important Note: Due to the logistics of this operation, this provider requests payment in advance 72 hours prior. Discounted pricing is for clients paying cash in advance at tour offices in San Jose or Puerto Viejo. A credit card authorization for the balance will be requested to hold the reservation. If you do not make the cash payment prior to the tour, your credit card will be processed for the remaining balance plus a small processing fee on the day of the tour. Complete instructions will be provided on your confirmation voucher.
** PLEASE NOTE: Due to the strictly enforced sales tax law that has been introduced in Costa Rica, sales tax may be added to the final payment made to the operator. Sales tax is already included in the deposit amount.
