Rio Celeste, Sloth Sanctuary & Llano de Cortez Waterfall Tour Recommendations:
Children: Minimum age is 4 years old. Children ages 4 to 10 years old pay a discounted rate.
Restrictions: There is a considerable amount of walking and hiking on this tour through the cloud forest. It is recommended that you be in good physical condition with no heart or other serious medical issues.
Insider Tip: This is a long day, but really packs in a whole lot and well worth the ticket price. Sometimes Rio Celeste can get a bit murky. But when you add in Llanos de Cortes waterfall and the amazing guides and wildlife at Finca Verde, there is no way this adventure from Guanacaste will disappoint you.
Important Notes:
Packing: It is typically warm at Llanos de Cortez Falls where you can swim and sunbathe. However, in Tenorio Volcano National Park, you will hike through multiple microclimates on the way to Rio Celeste, including a cloud forest which can be very chilly and rainy. And a rainforest…where it rains of course. Rain boots are available for rent at the park entrance. We suggest bringing shoes you do not mind getting wet that are also secure for hiking uneven and slippery terrain if you have them. There are changing rooms at the entrance to Llano de Cortez and you can store your change of clothes and things you do not need to carry with you in the van. Our driver stays with the van to keep your belongings safe.
Weather: This tour runs rain or shine all year round. However, note that at times, Rio Celeste is not so celeste. During the rainy season, the waters can get mucked up and turn brown. More like chocolate milk than the milky way. So, the most optimal time to visit would be the dry season between December and April.
