A contender to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and definitely one of
Costa Rica´s top 7 Natural Wonders, Rio Celeste is one of the most majestic places for hiking in Costa Rica. It's no wonder hiking Rio Celeste is one of our favorite things to do in Arenal & La Fortuna. Grab your camera and come see the unbelievably blue hues of the Rio Celeste Costa Rica for yourself!
The trail to hike Rio Celeste begins in the El Tenorio Volano National Park. Not to worry, the 2 hour drive to El Tenorio National Park is part of the fun. Your guide will point out the flora & fauna surrounding Arenal volcano as well as the lush jungles of Miravalles. You will also get a peek at Lake Nicaragua which shares its border with Costa Rica.
Once we arrive to the trail-head at Tenorio National Park, our 11km (7mi) journey to Rio Celeste begins! The hike to Rio Celeste is typically about 4 hours round trip from here. We will navigate the azure blue lined path past hot springs and waterfalls. Meanwhile, your guide will help you seek out wildlife along the way. The real highlight of the tour however is where the Buenavista River & Sour Creek meet and create the most spectacular blue water you will find anywhere in Costa Rica.
Surrounded by stunning green rainforest and magnificent waterfalls, the aqua marine color of Rio Celeste is simply breath taking. The sulfur emitted from volcanic activity mixed with natural calcium carbonate produces an incredible hue leaving a color very similar the Caribbean Sea! Be sure to wear a bathing suit. Rio Celeste is also home to natural hot springs that you will encounter while hiking along the banks of the river. Some of which we can dive into if the PH levels allow that day. After our day of exploring Rio Celeste & Volcan Tenorio National Park, we will stop to refuel with lunch before heading back.
The Rio Celeste Hike is beautiful beyond imagination. And with The Real Deal Tours, you know you are getting the best deals in Costa Rica too! Go check out one of Costa Rica's 7 Natural Wonders for yourself. Book your Rio Celeste Hike from La Fortuna today!

Insider Tip: Due to the chemical makeup that creates the incredible blue, it also creates water that is not safe to swim in at times. Your guide will let you know which pools are safe and which are not based on the warnings posted at the Tenorio National Park.
